Why “Indigo Lotus?” Indigo is the color associated with the Third Eye Chakra. The third eye chakra is the gate that leads within to higher consciousness. A lotus rises up from mud to bloom in beauty atop the water. It is a symbol of determination and growth.
That is actually the Sanskrit symbol for Om, (sometimes Aum.) a sacred, mystical syllable used in prayer and meditation. It has many meanings like the sound the universe made when it was created. Some people take this literally and some metaphorically. Also, the phonetics of the sound Om starts in the bottom of the vocal cavity, then to the glottis, then to the mouth cavity and ultimately disappear into the silent void. This process symbolizes the creation, the maintainence, the destruction of all things and the return to where they came. As a Mantra repeating the word "om" is a great way to slow down the breathing, calms the nervous system and gives the glands and organs of the body a vibrational massage. Om
Indigo Lotus is committed to exploring the teachings of Buddha and to provide a gathering place for those of us who may choose to practice Buddhism. Buddhism focuses on living in a way that we can easily incorporate it's practices into our lives. Once we realize this, we also realize that we have the ability to ease the suffering of not only ourselves but of all sentient beings. Buddhism does not proclaim dogmas; rather, it encourages critical questioning. Using meditation, the intellectual understanding of the teachings becomes a personal experience. Additional methods solidify what is reached in meditation. The goal of Buddha's teachings is the full development of the innate potential of body, speech, and mind. Through his teachings, Buddha is seen as a timeless mirror of mind's inherent potential.
